Confession #8 : I don’t have the time and money for this.

This obstacle was a big one for me. Whenever I thought about adding just one more thing to my list of things to do, I would get stressed out and start to feel overwhelmed. Whenever I thought I would have to invest money, I got anxious because I felt it would take money away from other goals and dreams.

Then, I started doing the math and realizing that I was actually saving money using my own products because I was buying less stuff at the store, and as a bonus the stuff I was buying from my own store was better for my health. I was taking charge of my spending and my health. Further, since I have to buy some products every month as part of the business, that means I get to deduct those products from my taxes! Also, as my team grew, I was getting paid, and sooner than anticipated, the money I made paid for my products. Between the savings at the store, the savings in taxes, and the money from other people’s purchases, I was spending much less. That’s more money to save or spend the way I choose!

Also, I realised that I needed to take charge of my time. Since I was the one filling out my calendar and deciding how I spent my time, I was the one with the power to decide what to do and what not to do. So, I started scheduling in time for those things that were important to me, but that I never got around to – like taking some time for myself! I started scheduling short segments of time for my various activities. Keeping them on my schedule meant that that time wasn’t going to get eaten up by something else. It also meant that I was spending a little time here and there on each project instead of thinking I had to do everything all at once. Little steps, I realised, in time add up to long distances.

Another realization was that balance is not static, rather it’s achieved over time. There might be something you need to do for yourself or someone you love that might take you out of balance for a while, but then, you make sure you re-balance. When I feel like I need more time with my son, more me time, more family time, more couple time, or even time to do nothing, on the calendar it goes. Guess what: I do have time for the things that I value!

Lesson #8 – Being in charge of my own time brought more balance into my life, and helped me do more of the things I loved to do.
