Did I mention I didn’t see myself selling anything. I was so afraid to ask people: afraid they would think I was crazy; afraid they would think the product was too good to be true; afraid they would say no; afraid I would somehow ruin relationships by asking for help. In short, I was afraid that if I asked people to spend money, they wouldn’t love me. So, naturally, the first people I approached were my family and best friends. And, I didn’t even have the courage to approach them myself! I made my friend do it for me. After all, she got me into this mess! (Love you, Sylvie!) And, guess what: some of them bought something in a show of support or because they loved the product, and others didn’t.
When I finally approached someone for the first time, by myself, I had a lump in my throat. My palms were sweaty. My heart was racing. But. Finally. I asked. And, the person I spoke with had a problem and she used one of my products. All of a sudden, the problem was gone, and I had a client. One client had a headache all day long that Tylenol, a bottomless glass of water and lots of fresh air did not cure; but Peppermint did the trick in less than 20 minutes. One client hurt her back and was so stiff she couldn’t move to walk, but I had an amazing rub that loosened the muscles for her in minutes so she could move more freely and experience less pain. Another client had dry skin and eczema, but Lavender helped clear her skin and make it smoother. Someone else had an ear infection that we cleared with Melaleuca.
What I realized was that these doTERRA essential oil products were helping my friends, and I realised that if I didn’t share with them and offer this help, that’s what would make me a bad friend. If I didn’t tell them about it, I would be withholding information that could help my friends. So, I’m not sure they all see it that way, and that’s fine. As long as I’ve shared, they can make their own decisions. But I’m making it my mission to share about these products so everyone can benefit from their use!
By the way, I still have friends and family. In fact, an unexpected happy result was the relationships that were strengthened and developed through this business. I guess people can tell when you are genuinely trying to help them. In reaching out to people, I have seen my existing relationships grow, I have reconnected with some old friends (whom I hope to see in my life more regularly!) and I have met and spent time with some amazing people. Does that mean everyone has bought something and wants to be in business with me? No. But, in general, people want to see you succeed and want to help you on your way. Even if they don’t buy, they encourage you, give you ideas, and cheer you on.
My lesson #5: It’s my duty to educate those I love about products that can improve their health and wellness.
